You do not need it for zipper socks. It is made for pull-on socks and stockings.
Will it work for wide calves?
It works best for standard to fairly full calves. For very wide calves our wide-calf zipper sock is often easier.

What it does
A sturdy metal frame you stretch the sock over. Stand it on the floor, step your foot in, then draw the frame up your leg by the two long handles: the sock slides on and stays put. It takes the grip and pinching out of putting on pull-on compression.

How to put it to use
Load the sock
Pull the sock over the curved frame with the heel facing out and fold the top down over the outside.
Step in
Sit, put the frame on the floor and slide your foot in until your heel is at the bottom.
Pull up
Lift by the handles, letting the sock slide off the frame and up your leg. Smooth out wrinkles.

Compression wear is not right for everyone. If you have peripheral artery disease, heart failure, fragile skin, open sores or reduced feeling in your feet, talk to your doctor before wearing it. New, painful or one-sided swelling needs a doctor, not a sock.
